Mike Treleaven joins massed crowds in Los Angeles Peace Rally12.00.00am GMT Tue 18th Feb 2003 Mike Treleaven, the prospective Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Totnes joined around 100,000 people in Los Angeles on Saturday to demonstrate against a war on Iraq. People in cities all around America joined in the world wide protest including 500,000 in New York. ' As we were unable to be in London my wife, Elaine, and I joined in with those in Los Angeles in what was a moving and stimulating experience. Approximately 100.000 people streamed down Hollywood Boulevard in a procession estimated to be over 1 1/2 miles long. Every sector of the American public was represented - all races, creeds and occupations joined peacefully together to show there abhorrence at the prospect of war in the Middle East' said Mike Treleaven. He continued ' The greatest cheer went up when I was able to tell the organisers that over 1 million had marched in London. The overwhelming view of everyone present was that despite the evil and despotic nature of the regime in Iraq war was not the answer and the inspectors had to be given much more time to complete their task. Being part of the march is an experience Elaine and I will never forget and we feel privileged to have taken part.
