Totnes Liberal Democrats celebrate local food at their annual dinner

12.00.00am GMT Thu 20th Nov 2003

Guests at Totnes Constituency Liberal Democrats Annual Dinner last Saturday were treated to a superb meal of locally produced and sourced food and drink. Over 70 people came to Stoke Fleming Village Hall where they were fed with local vegetables, home made bread, fish fresh from Brixham, cheese from Totnes and Loddiswell, wine produced near Totnes and chocolates from Salcombe. Having enjoyed a veritable feast they were entertained by David Walter, former ITN and BBC political correspondent and now Director of Communications for the Liberal Democrats, who talked about his experiences in reporting politics over two decades. David has recently been selected as Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Torridge and West Devon to succeed John Burnett M.P. who is standing down at the next election.

Commenting on the evening Totnes Prospective Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Mike Treleaven said:

' The Totnes Constituency has a wealth of locally produced food available of the highest quality and we were delighted to use our annual dinner as an occasion to celebrate this. In Brixham we have some of the best fish in the country, the variety of cheeses available is amazing and there is a never ending supply of locally grown vegetables. This summer has also proved to be one of the best for local wine producers. I would urge everyone to go out and try local fish, meat, vegetables cheese and all the other goodies that are produced in the constituency'

He continued:

'We had a superb evening where I was particularly pleased to welcome David Walter and Kay Barnard, one of our prospective candidates for the European Parliament, who made the journey from Bath to be with us'
